Bronfenbrenner has identified Soviet developmental psychologist Lev Vygotsky and German-born psychologist Kurt Lewin as important influences on his theory. Bronfenbrenner's work provides one of the foundational elements of the ecological counseling perspective, as espoused by Robert K. Conyne , Ellen Cook, and the University of Cincinnati Counseling Program. Bronfenbrenner also says that there is a chronosystem which encompasses all four systems, in other words the cumulative experiences an individual has in their lifetime. Below is a visual representation of Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Model.

The chronosystem is one of five The Bronfenbrenner Ecological Model: Microsystem. The Bronfenbrenner theory suggests that the microsystem is the smallest and most immediate environment in which children live. As such, the microsystem comprises the daily home, school or daycare, peer group and community environment of the children. Interactions within the microsystem typically involve personal relationships with family members, classmates, teachers and caregivers. Brofenbrenner (1986) suggests employment of the term “chronosystem” as an elaboration on the widely accepted mesosystem development model. He explains that while the mesosystem focuses on the primary context for development, which is within the family, the chronosystem also accounts for the effect of the environments in which people live, which are also an integral part of human development. The Bronfenbrenner Ecological Model: Chronosystem The Bronfenbrenner theory suggests that the chronosystem adds the useful dimension of time, which demonstrates the influence of both change and constancy in the children's environments.

Chronosystem. Although he did not originally include it in his theory, Bronfenbrenner later incorporated a fifth system into his model: the chronosystem. This has to do with the changes and consistencies that the other four show in the child's life, and how they affect him. 2020-04-21 Bronfenbrenner’s bio-ecological model of human development describes the physical and social contexts in which we develop a human ecosystem, Chronosystem refers to the time frame of all these things and how time can affect people through either life cycles, Using Bronfenbrenner's (1979, 1986, 1995) ecological theory of human development … An ecological model of the impact of sexual assault on women's mental health Trauma Violence macrosystem factors (e.g., societal rape myth acceptance), and chronosystem factors (e.g., sexual revictimization and history of other victimizations Bronfenbrenner identified a further layer, the Chronosystem in which he attempted to explain how time relates to the environments in which children grow and develop.
This is how I interpret the chronosystem, a model that considers time as an influence on human development, and one of five parts of Bronfenbrenner’s theory of ecological systems (Bronfenbrenner, 1988; Edinete & Tudge, 2013). Bronfenbrenner’s model quickly became very appealing and became accepted as a useful framework for psychologists, sociologists and teachers to study child development. The Ecological Systems Theory provides a holistic approach which is inclusive of all the systems children and their family are involved in, accurately reflecting the dynamic nature of actual family relationships (Hayes & O
